Frame Condition Photo Checklist: Pass, Caution, or Stop Before Shipping Your Glasses
Share
Lensabl can replace lenses in many existing frame styles, but the frame still has to meet its condition and construction requirements. Lensabl says frames should be in good condition and specifically rules out frames that are cracked or severely bent. Use this checklist to decide whether to continue, pause for a photo review, or stop before shipping. This is a preliminary visual self-check, not final approval for lens replacement.

Start Here: What “Pass,” “Caution,” and “Stop” Mean
Start with what you can see on the frame, then check the frame type against Lensabl’s full frame eligibility guide. If one detail is unclear, treat it as Caution rather than guessing.
| State | What it means | Next step |
|---|---|---|
| PASS | No obvious checklist issue was found. | Continue to the normal eligibility/order flow. |
| CAUTION | Something is uncertain, worn, special, or needs attention first. | Send clear photos to Lensabl or resolve the issue before shipping. |
| STOP | A verified Lensabl restriction or clear condition problem is present. | Do not ship yet. Check the current eligibility guidance or contact Lensabl. |
A Pass is not a guarantee. Lensabl may still determine after review or lab inspection that a frame is not eligible for lens replacement.
Take These Photos Before You Decide
Lensabl asks customers who are unsure about frame eligibility to send photos before ordering, but its public eligibility page does not specify required camera angles. The views below cover the areas most likely to answer a condition question clearly.
| Recommended photo | What to show |
|---|---|
| 1. Full front | The whole frame straight on, with both lenses and the bridge visible. |
| 2. Top / alignment view | The frame from above so any obvious unevenness or bending is easier to see. |
| 3. Left hinge and temple | A clear close-up where the arm connects to the front of the frame. |
| 4. Right hinge and temple | The same view on the other side. |
| 5. Bridge and rims | The bridge plus the rim around each lens, especially any area that looks worn or damaged. |
| 6. Damage close-up | A close photo of any crack, bend, loose hardware, missing screw, or other spot you want Lensabl to review. |
These are recommended review views, not a published Lensabl photo requirement. If Lensabl asks for something different, follow its current instructions.
PASS — No Obvious Frame-Condition Problem Found
A Pass means your own check didn’t turn up an obvious reason to stop. Continue only if all of the following are true:
If those checks are clear, you can start your lens replacement. Lensabl still makes the final eligibility determination.
CAUTION — Ask Lensabl Before You Order or Ship
Caution is the right call when you can see something that needs attention but Lensabl’s public policy doesn’t give you a clear yes-or-no answer. Pause if any of these apply:
For these cases, use Lensabl’s eligibility guidance or contact Lensabl before you ship. A loose or missing screw is a reason to pause; this checklist does not treat it as an automatic permanent rejection.
STOP — Do Not Ship Yet
Stop the shipment when the issue is already covered by Lensabl’s current condition or frame-type rules. Do not ship yet if any of these are true:
“Stop” means stop before mailing this pair. Check the current Lens Replacement Eligibility page or contact Lensabl if you need to confirm what can be resolved.
Special Frame Cases to Check Twice
Frame type and frame condition are separate questions. A frame can be listed as an eligible style and still need a condition review.
| Frame case | Current Lensabl guidance | What to do |
|---|---|---|
| Rimless / semi-rimless | Listed as eligible with restrictions; Lensabl Support says to include demo/original lenses. | Include the required lens and check the current eligibility page before shipping. |
| One-piece / shield lens | Currently listed as not eligible for Lensabl lens replacement. | Do not ship for this service. |
| Ray-Ban Meta | Lensabl Support says prescription lens service is available only for Ray-Ban Meta frames bought directly from Lensabl. | If the frame came from somewhere else, do not mail it for this service. |
| Safety / industrial frame | Lensabl’s eligibility page lists safety goggles as eligible; special instructions can apply to industrial/safety frames. | Check the current Lensabl guidance before ordering. |
| Vintage frame | Vintage frames are listed as eligible, but condition still matters. | Use the same Pass/Caution/Stop condition check; ask Lensabl if you are unsure. |
If You’re Unsure, Send Lensabl Clear Photos First
Lensabl’s eligibility page tells unsure customers to send frame photos plus a copy of the prescription to hello@lensabl.com before placing an order.
- 1 Photograph the whole frame and the area you are concerned about.
- 2 Include a clear copy/photo of your prescription as Lensabl requests.
- 3 Email the materials before ordering and wait for Lensabl’s guidance.
Email: hello@lensabl.com
A photo review lets Lensabl see the issue before you order, but it is not a guarantee of final lab acceptance.

Cleared to Send? Pack Your Frames the Lensabl Way

Before mailing the package, review Lensabl’s current “How To Send Us Your Glasses” instructions in case the process has changed.
Quick FAQs
Can I replace lenses in my old frames?
Often, yes. Lensabl says most common frame styles can qualify, but the frame must also meet its current condition and construction rules. Start with this condition check, then confirm the full frame type on Lensabl’s eligibility page.
Does frame age alone make it ineligible?
Lensabl does not publish a universal age cutoff in the guidance reviewed for this resource, and its eligibility page lists vintage frames as eligible. Visible condition and frame construction still matter, so an older frame with anything questionable belongs in Caution.
What if a screw is loose or missing?
Treat loose or missing hardware as Caution. Lensabl’s own content identifies loose or missing screws as a frame-condition concern, but its formal eligibility page does not say every missing screw is an automatic rejection. Get the frame repaired or ask Lensabl before shipping.
Do rimless frames need the old or demo lenses?
Lensabl Support says to include demo or original lenses for rimless and semi-rimless frames. Some other frames without a groove for tracing may also need them.
Can I send Ray-Ban Meta frames for lens replacement?
Lensabl Support says prescription lens services for Ray-Ban Meta frames are available only when the frame was purchased directly from Lensabl. If yours came from another seller, do not mail it for this service.
Can Lensabl still decline a frame after I complete this checklist?
Yes. This checklist is only a consumer pre-check. Lensabl may still determine after review or lab inspection that the frame is not eligible for lens replacement.
